Can Artifical Intelligence be the Threat to Humanity in the Future?

From Quora.

It already is.

Humans have already started using computers for their own selfish needs as opposed to the benefit of humanity. Automated stock trading HFT systems are the tip of the AI iceberg about to hit the rest of the human beings.

What essentially is being created in AI? Something that can do the exact things that humans do, except being trained with clearer response signals at exceptionally high speeds. And what benefit may it have, you ask? No benefit that a human can't do in a few centuries. And how has that experience been since your time of birth?

Imagine feeding many years worth of historical news stories into this neural network and it quickly recognizes these patterns, and can potentially tell you how history could shape up. Or, where more arbitrage lies so that the mass exploitation of resources earthly or otherwise can begin today. Does this make AI smarter than humans? Yes, because so much good information is being fed so quickly. No, because this is exactly what the human beings are doing. Only, 85 * 87 type operations will be also WAY faster than human beings in these AI systems.

Am I going to worried about it? Not until they come knocking at my door trying to steal what I have. Then I'll act no different than a vicious mud slinging monkey.
